10th Weigh In

This week, I was hoping to pass the halfway mark of my weight loss journey (200.5 lbs) and see the under side of 200 lbs for the first time in ten years.  This past week has been a fairly average exercise and diet week.  Yesterday, I tried to resist an extra serving of white beans and rice (a New Orleans favorite) but I just had to have a little bit more.  I also haven’t been able to exercise as much as I would have liked to this past week.  I was hoping to kick it up a notch, but I really haven’t been able to do that.  So, when I went to weigh in this morning, I wasn’t sure about what the results would be.

Drum roll please…

I weighed in this morning at 197 lbs.  My jaw hit the floor.  The Hallelujah Chorus played in the background.  Gravity ceased for a moment.  What a feeling.  What a rush.  Praise God.

Here’s what I’ve eaten today:

1 Special K Protein Meal Bar

2 grilled chicken soft tacos with lettuce, fat free refried beans, and fat free cheese

1 serving of lowfat strawberry yogurt

½ grapefruit

1 serving of tomato soup

1 grilled chicken salad with broccoli, spinach, almonds, cucumbers and salad toppers

1 serving of lowfat blueberry yogurt with fresh blackberries

76 oz of water

Supplements I’ve taken today:

1 Fish Oil Pill

1 Multi Vitamin

Exercise:

25 times on Chest Press Machine

100 crunches on Ab Machine

62 minutes of walking

My wife Kathy loves to exercise.  This wasn’t always the case, but a few years ago, she decided to lose 40 lbs.  Over several months, she exercised daily and changed her diet dramatically.  Now, she is seen on long walks all over the neighborhood.  She’s maintained her weight better than anyone I’ve ever known.  Unfortunately, I did not follow suit.  I continued right on guzzling soda and scarfing fast food.  Now that I’m trying to lose weight, she remains my greatest resource and my greatest inspiration.

Here’s what I’ve eaten today:

2 Special K Protein Meal Bar

1 ham sandwich on whole wheat bread

1 hot dog

2 slices of supreme pizza with fat free cheese on whole-wheat crust.

77 oz of water

Supplements I’ve taken today:

1 Fish Oil Pill

1 Multi Vitamin

Exercise:

60 minutes of walking

Exercise and Eat

Exercise and Eat

My dad spent twenty two years in the Marine Corps.  Every morning, as a part of his regular routine, he would jog between three and nine miles.  As a Marine, he was required to keep his weight in check, so this was his solution.  It not only served it’s purpose, but it was a great stress reliever as well.  I once asked him why he ran so much.  He answered, “Well, I figured I could either exercise and eat or not eat.  I like to eat too much to not exercise.”

What great words of exercise wisdom.

I remembered his words today as I was walking.  I wanted to quit, find my sofa, and watch television.  Instead, I walked a full 90 minutes in two sessions, once with Kathy and another while talking to my dad on the phone.

Thanks, Daddy.

Exercise!?

Exercise!?

Today, I worked at my desk all day long.  I know many people don’t like those days, but it was great.  I got so much planning and paperwork done.  However, at the end of the day, I wanted to move.  I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but I wanted to sweat.  I know this next statement may cause some people to check to see who is writing this, but I wanted to exercise.

I never thought that those words would ever come from me.  Nothing surprises me now.  Wonders may never cease to occur.  Pigs have flown.  Hell has frozen over.  I now enjoy exercising.

Go figure…
