Wardrobe Malfunction

29 May

The condo pool looked amazing.  I stepped in and easily adapted to the coolness of the water.  After my 9th lap, I was ready to swim the length of the pool underwater.  I put both feet against the side, took a deep breath, and pushed off with as much force as I could muster.  I shot forth through the water feeling unencumbered by any resistance.  Suddenly, I felt as if my feet were entangled.  It was at that moment that I realized that I had swam right out of the bathing suit.

Over the past few months, I’ve had to leave some of my favorite clothes behind (no pun intended) because they were now too big for me.  It looks like my bathing suit is the next article of clothing to be replaced.

22 May

This week, I’m attending one of those conference where it’s hard to eat right, but I’m doing my best, eating lots of fruits and vegetables.  In fact, just today, I’ve eaten a banana, a serving of strawberries and another of grapes.  Then I’ve had medium sized salads with broccoli at lunch and supper along with asparagus and mixed vegetables as well.  I can’t remember the last time I ate asparagus.  It still tastes the same.

Here at the conference, I’m averaging about two hours of walking each day, but it’s hard to get in the other exercise that I need.  Fortunately, the two hours of walking includes walking up and down hills in the Blue Ridge Mountains, so I’m getting plenty of exercise.

Being at this camp reminds me of several years ago when I took a youth group to a camp in West Virginia.  I overheard one of the brothers talking to his brother.  He said, “Have you noticed that we haven’t had macaroni and cheese once this week!  All we’ve had is a bunch of fruit.”  The camp director overheard him and said, “That’s because we want you to stay regular while you’re here.”  “What does that mean?” asked the boy.  “I’m the most regular boy you’ll ever see.”

Have a great night,

17 May

All day long today, I wanted to exercise on the elliptical machine.  I’m not sure why, but I just wanted to spend an hour working off stress.  But, I didn’t get to do it.  Instead, I took time to walk a little extra between appointments.  It’s amazing how much a little bit of exercise can calm the mind.

Stiff Back

15 May

Working toward my weight loss goal of 175 has been tough for the last couple of days.  I have a stiff back that I’ve tried to work through with exercise, stress relief, and even visiting my chiropractor.  Pray that it doesn’t cause me to eat too much.

1 Hamburger Steak

1 Serving of Sliced Beef

1 Boiled Egg

National Eat What You Want Day

11 May

Today is National Eat What You Want Day, seriously.  I’m not making this up.  Yesterday was National Shrimp Day and tomorrow is National Nutty Fudge Day.  I didn’t eat shrimp yesterday and I’m not going to eat nutty fudge tomorrow, but today I am hoping to eat something that I really want to eat.  Up to this point, at 7 PM, I haven’t.  I’m still going to follow my diet plan and not splurge on sweets or soda, but I am going to eat something fun today.  I’m not sure what.  I’ll let you know tomorrow.
So let me ask you.  If you could eat anything you want, what would it be?
P.S.  I’m still working, so I can’t give you my food and exercise details today, but I’ve been pretty good.  I have also lost 2 lbs this week.  I promise not to gain them back eating whatever I want.

7.5 oz Coca-Cola

9 May

I forgot what it was like to wean myself off of Coke.  Moving from the 20 oz to the 16 oz wasn’t bad at all.  It just seemed like a little bit less.  Then moving from the 16 oz to the 12 oz didn’t seem bad either.  It was still a Coke size that was sold from a vending machine, so it still felt substantial.  Today, however, the 7.5 oz can just seemed like a cruel joke that I was playing on myself.  I have a few more to consume and then I’ll be ready to stop them altogether.

Here’s What I Had to Eat Today:

1 Special K Protein Meal Bar

1/2 Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich

1/2 Regular Cobb Salad

1 Chick Fil-A Sandwich

1 Peanut Butter Sandwich on Whole Wheat Sandwich Thins

1/4 Brownie

7.5 oz of Coca-Cola

90 oz of Water

Here’s My Exercise For the Day:

30 Push-ups

45 Minutes of Walking

25 Squats

8 May

I had to say it several times today:

“Yes, I’m the guy who gained weight on a mission trip to Haiti.”

I’m not sure if it was the rice or the bread or the soda or the snacks or the change in exercise styles, but I imagine that it was the combination of all of those things.

I’m thinking of writing of a book called, “Want to gain weight?  Go to Haiti!”

Here’s what I had to eat today:

1 Special K Protein Meal Bar

1 Fresco Chicken Soft Taco

1 Fresco Crunchy Taco

1 Fresco Bean Burrito

1 Large Grilled Chicken Salad with cucumbers, lettuce, green peppers, broccoli, etc…

1 Slice of Bread with nonfat peanut butter

1 Serving of Pretzels

12 oz of Coca-Cola (Yes, I’m downgrading tomorrow to those sad little 7.5 oz cans)

90 oz of water

Here’s my exercise for the day:

100 ab crunches on ab machine

27 Push-ups

30 Minutes of Walking

5 Minutes of Eyelid Aerobics (resurrected from several months ago)
